Stage to Studio – May 2013

Welcome to a new series we’re doing here at KUTX, called Stage to Studio. Every month we’ll take a few artists from the monthly Open Mic at the Cactus Cafe (usually the first Wednesday of every month) and bring them into to the KUTX studios to record a few tracks. Then, you’ll vote on which artist you liked best, and the winner will get their song played on KUTX!

This month, we had five fantastic artists, find their songs at the bottom of this page!

The River Has Many Voices is the moniker of Austin singer-songwriter Matthew Payne. His music features poetic lyrics and a gentle and playful three-finger picking method, taking inspiration from singers, poets, and painters in equal measure.

Winner! Steven Bacon and Kendra Kinsey are a singer-songwriter duo based out of Austin. The pair originally met while playing separately at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and now they are recording an album and touring together nationally. Check out the selection which made our Song of the Day.

Country rocker Chris Fullerton, originally from New Jersey, settled in Austin after falling in love with its music scene. Fullerton comes from a family that lives and breathes country music, and grew up listening to the kind of music he plays now.

Austin-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter Kit Holmes has won many awards since her first songwriting contest in 2004. Her adult-contemporary, jazz-infused songs have also earned her a Grammy nomination.

Singer-songwriter Jason Long was born and raised in Houston. He now lives and works as a dental assistant in Austin, writing songs and playing music inspired by the work of John Lennon, Monsters of Folk, and Ray LaMontagne, among others.
