Ume has been melting faces in Austin for over a decade now, combining punk fury with wall-of-sound guitar playing for something that’s both intense and mesmerizing. The band has been on a bit of a break for the last few years as Lauren and Eric Larson (Ume’s singer/guitarist and bassist, respectively) raise their young daughter. But last week saw the return of Ume in the form of Other Nature, out now via Austin’s Modern Outsider Records. This week marks the debut of Lauren as our guest DJ on My KUTX, and her set is full of the same light and dark dichotomy that’s characterized Ume’s singular sound.
