Houston-born pianist Jason Moran is not only one of the most adventurous and forward-thinking minds in jazz but in all of music, yet he continually mines the past. His latest show is all about WWI-era pioneer James Reese Europe and his Harlem Hellcats, a huge band that introduced war-torn Europe to American jazz.
