One might expect The War On Drugs’ leader Adam Granduciel to feel “under the pressure” following up the band’s Grammy-winning last album of new material, 2017’s “A Deeper Understanding”. But the first live release from the Philadelphia band (2020’s “Live Drugs”) bridged the gap, and now Granduciel & Co. have re-emerged with “I Don’t Live Here Anymore” – their fifth and finest studio concoction.
In the interim Adam became a first-time father, and having his 2-year old son Bruce around during the songwriting and recording process informed the sense of discovery and wonder that permeates “I Don’t Live Here Anymore”: “We should be filled with curiosity…it should be an explorative thing,” he muses.
L.A., New York and Philly all played a role in the new work’s gestation – and now it’s almost time for The War On Drugs to take these songs to the stages of the world, with a tour that begins in Austin at ACL LIVE January 19 and 20, 2022 before moving on to larger venues like New York’s Madison Square Garden as well as a European trek. “I’m gonna walk through every doorway, I can’t stop,” Granduciel sings on “I Don’t Live Here Anymore.” Believe him. – Jody Denberg, KUTX Host
