As a native Austinite, Anastasia Hera has seen her city evolve from a sleepy college town to a booming international tech hub hosting some of the world’s biggest companies. And like her hometown, Anastasia has had her foot on the accelerator ever since diving into the city’s vibrant music scene more than a decade ago. In addition to honing her skills as a rapper and lyricist with appearances at Sound on Sound Fest, SxSW, Urban Music Fest, and Fun Fun Fun Festival among others, last year Anastasia started her own brand of artisanal liquor, HERA Tropical Rum. If being an artist and entrepreneur weren’t enough, in 2015 Hera also helped launch the nonprofit CAKE to empower women and girls who have an interest in musical performance.
On her 2021 EP, “This is Anastasia,” Anastasia pushed herself to step outside of her earlier rap centered material with a strong singing voice and plenty of catchy choruses to show it off. Hera’s relentless positive energy was front and center during her recent visit to Studio 1A to perform a few songs ahead of an appearance at Summer Jam, our annual hip hop and R&B showcase.
