If you’re interested in classical music and have been anywhere near Austin in the past 20 years, chances are you’re well aware of Anton Nel. Even though Nel is originally from South Africa, we claim him as one of Austin’s classical music gems; he just celebrated his 20th year of teaching at the University of Texas. A celebrated interpreter of Beethoven, Nel also shows his reach in his approach to contemporary music as well. He famously premiered David Del Tredici’s “Virtuoso Alice” and Stephen Paulus’ Piano Concerto. He’s won an enormous amount of awards, performed at countless summer festivals, and played numerous solo and chamber concerts all over the world. We’re lucky to have him in Austin. Anton stopped by Studio 1A to give us a preview of his concert coming up next week, listen below!
