Black Lips 5.18.17

Black Lips are unpolished, impassioned and boy are we glad to have them back in Austin. These notoriously unruly garage rockers have come a long way from sweaty basement shows in their hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. This month sees the release of their first album in three years; Satan’s Graffiti or God’s Art? and it showcases the addition of a fifth member on saxophone thickening up their sound. Recorded in seclusion in upstate New York, the album was produced by Sean Lennon; a meeting of minds that has created their most sonically elaborate and creatively evolved music to date. Instruments abound across tracks that stay true to Black Lips’ dirty rock roots; most notably Yoko Ono on the throat horn in “Occidental Front” and contributions from Saul Adamczewski of Fat White Family. Black Lips joined us in Studio 1A, singing themselves hoarse, breaking damn strings and proving that they’re still the same badass rockers they were when they first formed. Check them out below and make sure to catch them at Hot Luck Festival!
