Started as a side project by some of the members of the Grammy winning Latin ensemble Grupo Fantasma, Brownout has stepped it up again by presenting their new Black Sabbath cover band, Brown Sabbath. Consisting of an 9 piece ensemble including Austin musicians Adrian Quesada, Sweet Lou, Gilbert Elorreaga, Beto Martinez, John Speice, Josh Levy, Mark Gonzales, Greg Gonzalez, and fronted by vocalist Alex Marrero, Brownout has received plenty of recognition in the Austin music scene, winning a total of 3 Austin Music Awards over the years. With the new project Brownout seeks to push their boundaries. As guitarist Adrian Quesada says, “The Brown Sabbath idea started out like everything else we do, half inside joke, half psychotic. It was an overly ambitious attempt at challenging ourselves as musicians.” With the release of their self titled first album to come out on the 24th, Brown Sabbath began their tour in Austin playing the Texas Pachanga Latin Music Fest in May and will return again to play The Empire Control Room this month on the 27th.
