David Ramirez in Studio 1A

Russell Crawford

The new album, All the Not So Gentle Reminders, is out NOW!

A couple of years ago, Austin singer-songwriter David Ramirez considered hanging up his hat and putting the guitar aside to pursue a quieter life off the road. Thankfully for his fans, Ramirez rediscovered his passion for music after some serious soul-searching and channeled it into his first new studio record in over five years. On All the Not So Gentle Reminders, Ramirez pays loving tribute to his younger self—the bright-eyed, ambitious young musician who pushed him into the challenging but immensely rewarding life of an artist.

As with all of his music, the songs on the new album are anchored by Ramirez’s painfully evocative vocals, which imbue every line with hard-won revelation. One of the album’s most autobiographical numbers, “The Music Man,” draws a direct line from a childhood cassette player to a lifelong obsession with making music—a sweet reminder that sometimes the smallest moments can have an outsized impact on our identity.

Watch David Ramirez perform “The Music Man” and two more from All the Not So Gentle Reminders, out now on Blue Corn Music.
