Elizabeth McQueen at KUTX 1.11.14

Since her move from Maryland to Austin in 2001, Elizabeth McQueen has really come into her own as a female vocalist. A singer of local group, Asleep At The Wheel, McQueen recently decided to try her hand at a Solo career. Her new stuff is a departure from the country, Texas swing that characterizes Asleep At The Wheel, and instead reflects the singer’s love affair with jazz americana. The past few years McQueen has delved into the works of female vocalists from the mid 20th century,  including Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, Nina Simone, and Peggy Lee. Her passion for jazz, blues, and old-country resonates through her voice in The Laziest Girl In Town (2010), her last album, and the finished product is simply a breath of fresh air.
