Gustaf performs their latest album, Package Pt. 2
Gustaf, a Brooklyn band formed in 2018, is a 5 piece art-punk outfit rapidly establishing themselves in the New York music scene. The band consists of Lydia Gammill, Tine Hill, Vram Kherlopian, Melissa Lucciola, and Tarra Theissen, and their first album, “Audio Drag for Ego Slobs”, debuted in 2021 through the Royal Mountain Records label. Their sophomore and most recent album, Package Pt. 2, was released on April 5, 2024, and the band is currently showcasing the album on tour now, including our own Studio 1A!
Package Pt. 2 is a 12-track bass-driven romp with Lydia Gammill’s vocals at the forefront. Jittery and loud, their post-punk noise has a sense of groove, letting you pick your poison of thrashing around or dancing to the beat. Gammill’s hypnotic yet stern vocals draws comparisons to Talking Heads, reminiscent of 70s and 80s New York punk at times. The steadily increasing beat and off-putting ambiance of “Here Hair” versus the quick guitar and drums alongside loud, gritty vocals of “Hard Hair” show the diversity of sound that the band is capable of, all while still being able to maintain the feeling of keeping a young, excited crowd in an underground New York bar.
