Members of Austin’s hip hop group, Hermit Kingdom, stopped by KUTX last Friday to promote Weird City Hip Hop Festival and shared some of their music.
Samson, Philos, JAY, WAKiZASHi, Tosin, and upper.reality make up the hip hop collective whose style fluctuates with each member’s contribution. WAKiZASHi, upper.reality and JAY sampled some of their music with WAKiZASHi showing off his strengths as a producer as well as his smooth yet sharp flow on the song, “Grungefight”, sounding reminiscent of the rapper, Eyedea. Fellow member, upper.reality shared a song titled “I Wanna” off of her EP, Before I Go, stepping up to the mic and demonstrating her ability to sing as well as rap, sounding similar to neo-soul artist Erykah Badu.
Hermit Kingdom performed at Weird City Hip Hop Festival at Spiderhouse Ballroom on Saturday January 16th and will also be performing at Kick Butt Coffee on January 22nd. Be sure to catch these incredible emcees while you can, you can also stream their music here on KUTX.
