Laura Mvula at KUTX 4.22.14

Described as “The Voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others. There’s something special about this young lady from Birmingham. Laura’s debut single ‘She’, produced by Steve Brown(Rumer) and mixed by Tom Elmhirst(Adele), appeared out of nowhere almost overnight to huge praise from the cream of UK music critics – a track so lyrically poetic that it took on a life of its own. A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-old is a unique collision of her Caribbean background and formal music. Laura started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. Now, with some incredible live performances and a praised UK release under her belt, 2014 looks to be an incredible year for her. Take a listen to her performance in KUTX Studio 1A RIGHT HERE!
