Calling Lee Fields a veteran soul artist is an absurd understatement. He released his first single in 1969, almost 50 years ago, but like his late friends Charles Bradley (who Fields took on his first tour) and Sharon Jones (who was once Field’s backup singer) Fields suffered years of obscurity before attaining his rightful success.
In his recent Studio 1A interview Fields told us how spaceships, planet earth, and god are all connected to love, and as a man married to the same woman for fifty years, when Lee Fields talks about love it’s best we listen. His latest record It Rains Love is about what he knows best–the endless hurt and the unparalleled happiness love can bring us in a way that only someone with his experience can, a way that only true soul music can.
