Over the past several years Mike Doughty has become a regular here at KUTX. Recently it’s just been him with a guitar and an array of effects but for this go-round he brought guitarist Brendan P. Brown, Gabrielle Sterbenz on guitar and backing vocals, Andrew Scrap Livingston on cello, percussionist Pete Wilhoit and organist Matthew Milligan. With the band, Mike Doughty strips away the guitar effects and looping of his solo work to focus on the textures and layers of an ensemble. The end result is a kind of Americana-tinged orchestral indie-rock with some of Mike Doughty’s signature songwriting.
