Quick! Name an indie rock band that takes blasting moody music through a pair of over-the-ear headphones to a whole new level! If you thought of the band Momma, you’ll be more than delighted to hear that their latest album “Household Name” does more than the trick.
Hailing from LA- Allegra Weingarten, Etta Friedman, & Aron Kobayashi Ritch brought their youthful indie sentiments to Studio 1A in celebration of their debut with Polyvinyl Record Co. Although their newest record might be a departure from what they’ve normally done, it still maintains the guitar-forward Momma flair they’ve come to be known by. Lead singer Etta Freidman noted in their “Making of Household Name” YouTube documentary that “Brave” held the most meaning for her because the lyrics worked to bring her back up after a powerful breakup. The courage she daily tried to muster amidst the heartbreak echos her influential heros, like Nirvana, Pavement, & The Smashing Pumpkins, that helped inspire the rise and fall lyrical theme of this album. Although it acted as an affirmation song in it’s beginning, the song is “good vibes” now that they’re perfoming it on their current tour around the states, & even their next go-round in 2023 opening for indie giants, Death Cab for Cutie. There’s no doubt that, “Household Name” is paving a new lane in the indie rock highway for Momma & KUTX is here for it.
