Sidewalk Chalk are impassioned, unstoppable and fresh out of the Chicago sound machine. Formed in the Windy City in 2012 and standing at six members Sidewalk Chalk makes epic hip-hop with undercurrents of jazz; they are a tense and raucous powerhouse. Their latest release, An Orchid is Born, was produced by Grammy Award-winner Robert “Sput” Searight. Don’t let the pretty title fool you; although this record is rare and carefully cultivated it is no delicate thing. Broken into three movements – The Hope, The Loss, and The Birth – the album is brimming with biting tales of Trump’s America. Lead track “Dig” is told from the perspective of someone just shot by a police officer; MC Rico Sisney’s no-thrills voice flows over speeding drums and sharp brass. The song, and the entire album, bangs and stomps and won’t be silenced. We were lucky enough to get the group in Studio 1A. Check out the full session below!
