Why Bonnie 9.16.22

Michael Minasi

Why Bonnie songwriter Blair Howerton may have decamped to Brooklyn after the release of the band’s 2020 EP Voice Box, but one listen to their debut full-length record, 90 in November, and you’re right back in her native Texas, road tripping with friends to the Gulf Coast. Almost like she needed to see her childhood home in the rearview to find the nostalgia waiting right below the surface. And like the Texas Gulf Coast, Why Bonnie finds a fun equilibrium between the sunny surf vibes and the laid-back southern lifestyle that gives the region a timeless if somewhat crusty charm. That’s not to say the album is all sunshine, but on balance, Sam Houdek’s bright guitars and Blair’s earnest vocals punch through any fog and invite the listener to relive the transient fun of misspent youth.

Why Bonnie heads out on a short tour this fall but you can watch their recent performance from Studio 1A with the video below.
