Wood & Wire @ KUTX 02.04.15

All it takes is some Wood & Wire to create this culmination of unmistakable bluegrass sounds.

As their name suggests, they favor the simplicity of creating rich music with the pure acoustic sounds wood and wire produce. The young acoustic band is made up of distinct musical backgrounds. Bassist Dom Fisher contributes his expertise in jazz studies together with guitarist Tony Kamel’s rich, textured vocals. Add banjoist Trevor Smith who grew up playing classical piano and mandolinist Billy Bright, a Berklee College of Music alumnus.

“We’re from all over the country,” says Fisher. Although the band’s style is deeply rooted in bluegrass traditions, they listen to everything from country and Americana to Led Zeppelin and Doc Watson. In 2010 they started making a name for themselves on the Austin music scene with their high-energy live performances. Give em’ a listen! Catch them at their performance this Friday, February 6, 2015 at Waterloo Records or you can stream them right here through KUTX.
