Coldcut x On-U Sound: “Vitals” (feat. Roots Manuva)

Not every collaboration needs its own supergroup name. Case in point: Coldcut & On-U Sound. Between On-U Sound Records founder/producer/remixer Adrian Sherwood and Coldcut’s Matt Black and Jon More exists a lifetime of music. While On-U Sound has permeated reggae, dub and electronic tones since 1979, Coldcut’s unique brand of electronic and hip-hop music has been heard in the production and remixes of acts like Blondie, INXS, Eurythmics, and Queen Latifah since their origins in the mid ’80s. United by a shared love of reggae-influenced electronic music, the three industry heavyweights are set to release a collaborative full-length, Outside The Echo Chamber.

The LP is stacked with legendary artists that Sherwood, Black and More have worked with in the past, like Lee “Scratch” Perry, Junior Reid, and Roots Manuva. Manuva is featured on Outside The Echo Chamber‘s introductory track “Vitals,” one of the album’s darkest reggae-infused offerings. In just under three minutes Manuva’s verses and choruses guide the listener through the ether of heavily-saturated dub effects that beg the question: why did it take them so long to team up?!

“Vitals” appears on Outside The Echo Chamber, out May 19.
