David Strange: “Aztec Corn”

Last year, the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger took over Studio 1A for an afternoon. Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl keep the psychedelic fires lit with their heavy sound, and now the GOASTT is proving to be a many-headed hydra. Kemp Muhl works with David Strange on the side, a guitarist who toured as a member of Courtney Love’s band earlier last year. Kemp Muhl and Strange proved to be adept writing partners, and they holed up in Yoko Ono’s studio to flesh out their songs. With Kemp Muhl acting as producer, arranger, and sometime vocalist, Strange brought, well, the strange. His self-titled debut EP (out January 20) takes cues from heavy blues, like on “Aztec Corn.” Over a distorted foundation, Strange sounds like he’s descending into madness, perfectly mirroring the pagan ritual described in the lyrics.
