David Wax Museum: “Harder Before It Gets Easier” (Live)

Boston’s David Wax Museum blurs a lot of genres together: Mexican folk, Americana, even hints of jazz and psychedelia, as we found out live at the Four Seasons last week. The band formed about a decade ago when David Wax and Suz Slezak teamed up, and they came about their sound honestly. Wax spent his college years studying folk music in Mexico, while Slezak grew up in Virginia on a steady diet of country and bluegrass.

All these elements come together in “Harder Before It Gets Easier,” one of the highlights from their recent live set. Their punny band name aside, David Wax Museum doesn’t make static music. Instead, “Harder” is vibrant, all about the forward momentum it conceals in the song title. Listen to the song below.
