Happy International Women’s Day! Let’s get right to it; today we’re highlighting a recent first entry from an Austin woman. Well…technically she bills herself as “a girl in progress”, but close enough, right?
Yes, as a native Texan in her mid-twenties, Gabi Turner is assuredly the fast ascent to womanhood, but she also just entered a new phase in her life – that of studio releases. The singer-guitarist shared her debut single “Comfort Zone” back on Valentine’s Day and has a full plate for SXSW. Turner just wrapped up a kickoff event last night, plays 2PM tomorrow at Irene’s, Monday evening at Hideaway Kitchen & Bar, and again at Pedernales Station both Monday and Thursday night.
So while her studio discography is still in a fledgling phase, best to familiarize yourself with Turner’s repertoire by catching any of those live sets. And if you’re normally the type to keep your head down and lay low during SXSW, maybe this is the year that you break out of your “Comfort Zone” and experience more than just one of them. Because with solemn piano chords laying the foundation and percussion keeping the pulse, Gabi Turner’s powerhouse pipes easily steal any performance with Adele-esque emotional energy, guaranteed to get you gabbin’ about Turner after this tune’s final decrescendo.
