2011’s Alive positioned Austin’s Golden Bear as a prog-rock answer to the Flaming Lips, but after four albums and a few tours, the band took a break. Chris Gregory used the downtime to strip down his songwriting, trading his stadium rock riffs for Rhodes piano and drum loops. Dimensional Place keeps the band’s shaggy spirit alive, but it’s moved to the dance floor. New co-singer Kate Daniel adds a light touch to Gregory’s melodies, helping propel songs like “Let My Love Come Down” into psychedelic disco bliss.
“Let My Love Come Down” appears on Dimensional Place, out September 16. Golden Bear plays an album release show at the Mohawk on October 15.
