Between his Texas drawl and his slow-building songs, Hayes Carll sounds so at ease, but the real power of his songs comes from his restless spirit. Carll spends a lot of his time on the road, drawing inspiration from both the loneliness and the freedom. Just like his mentors Ray Wylie Hubbard and Guy Clark, he collects stories and turns small details into big songs.
Ahead of his show at ACL Live on Saturday, Carll tried out some of his new work in Studio 1A. “Love is so easy when you’re moving slow,” he sings on “Love Is Easy.” The deeper truth is hidden in plain sight: that’s easier said than done. Download the song below.
