Julia Jacklin’s music is a sparse, gentle form of country music, but it’s not less exuberant. Just watch the video for “Cold Caller” and you’ll see how the young Australian singer-songwriter can turn low-key, swaying rhythms into a joyful dance.
The song also smuggles in some heady sentiments inside its sunshiney sound. “Will I be a mother or will I always be a child? / Does someone come and say, ‘hey girl, it’s your time’? / What if I’m dancing and I don’t hear the door knock?” Jacklin sings. “Cold Caller” is a youthful song that doesn’t have all the answers, but it’s gonna dance through them anyhow.
“Cold Caller” appears on the “Eastwick b/w Cold Caller” single, out now via Polyvinyl.
