Lionmilk: “all i have”

Robb Klassen

L.A. producer Lionmilk insists on a strict regimen of lightness matched with deep introspection, molding the dichotomy for his own brand of self-expresssion. And on the new album When the Flowers Bloom (his first on Peanut Butter Wolfe’s record label Stones Throw), he expands this notion with a collection of self-contained personal stories, each punctuated by a different style. Everything from DIY, lo-fi bedroom pop to jazz to Brazilian temperaments are spotlighted as Lionmilk whirrs through a wide array of emotions. And he plays every instrument on every song to boot.

On “all i have,” Lionmilk returns to his DIY, lo-fi production days, perseverating over that very specific moment in a relationship or even in having a crush, where you realize that your love may not be requited, but that dumb, dumb love bug has you clinging to that last whisper of hope.

When the Flowers Bloom is out May 30th, and Lionmilk plays a show at Parish on July 12th.
