Here’s a peak behind the KUTX curtain: a few weeks ago, I heard an incredible song blasting out of our DJ booth, courtesy of Laurie Gallardo’s Austin Music Minute. She was spotlighting Lochness Mobsters, a band name that had repeatedly made me laugh every time I saw it on a local bill. The group is more than just a name, though. Lochness Mobsters originally formed in Lake Charles, LA back in 2008 but they recently moved to Austin. The trio has a new album coming out called War Tuna, and they celebrate its release (and their upcoming national tour) with a show tonight at Hotel Vegas. War Tuna is a revved-up gumbo of punk and surf-rock, anchored by the lo-fi party of “Igloo’s Icepick.” As Laurie says, they would have made Lux Interior proud. Download the song below.
