Mark Sultan: “Believe Me”

Mark Sultan can often be found cooking up garage punk under the name BBQ with Berlin soulmate King Khan, but he’s just as good as a one man wrecking ball. For the past twenty years, Sultan has taken the ethos first laid down in “Louie Louie” to heart: play fast, play loud, and play weird. He’s just launched his own imprint and studio, Chompazoid, all the better to beam out his 120-second barrages. The “date unknown” given on his Bandcamp for his new 7″ seems about right. The b-side, “Believe Me,” takes about a half-dozen psychedelic ideas and crams them into a succinct, era-defying single. You’d do right to take him at his devilish word.

“Believe Me” appears on “Ophelia” b/w “Believe Me,” out via Chompazoid. Mark Sultan plays Hotel Vegas on Tuesday, August 16.
