Meernaa is a trio from Oakland, California featuring Carly Bond, Rob Shelton, and Andrew Maguire. They only have a handful of songs to their name, but keep your eye on this band (I got tipped off by a former KUTXer who says their live shows are not to be missed). Meernaa’s music is subtle, using just a few instruments but in really imaginative ways. “10/9” is an off-kilter R&B slow jam, mixing in touches of jazz and psychedelia–this is music that’s best served with the lights down low. Every listen, I’m not quite sure which direction it’s heading in, and that’s why I keep coming back to the song again and again. Listen to “10/9” below.
