A year ago, Mike & The Moonpies made their ACL Fest debut in front of the Zilker masses, but the Austin group’s natural home is the dancehall. They’re regulars at the White Horse and familiar faces at such far-ranging venues as Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth and the Cowboy Saloon in Laramie, Wyoming.
The Moonpies are old hat at country standards, but their originals are just traditional enough to keep the feet on the dance floor. “Say It Simply”–from Mockingbird, out October 2–sounds instantly classic, and you can download it below. Mike & The Moonpies will also be providing the tears for your beers on Sunday as they help say goodbye to Holy Mountain.
