All you need to know about Night Drive is right there in the band name. Rodney Connell and Brandon Duhon make incessant, infinitely-propulsive music that’s best heard at night, zooming at a hundred miles per hour. The Austin duo’s self-titled debut is one of the more fully-realized local releases this year, boasting an electronic gleam but a punk rock engine.
This is a good recipe for a great live show. In our Studio 1A last week, Night Drive was both stylish and a little out-of-control. Connell’s brooding croon makes it sound like Morrissey is riding shotgun on the electrifying “Easy To Lie.” His shrieking “yeah!” about halfway through the song is the perfect exclamation point for a band that’s all about the maximum.
KUTX and Margin Walker present Night Drive at Cheer Up Charlie’s tonight. Connell and Duhon are the guest DJs on My KUTX on Saturday, June 24.
