No Joy: “Everything New”

On their first two albums, Montreal’s No Joy stayed close to the shoegaze formula: hushed vocals, heavenly harmonies, and entire symphonies of distorted guitars. There’s nothing wrong with this approach, but on 2013’s Wait To Pleasure, there was a restless pop band buried beneath the fuzz. “Everything New”–the first taste from More Faithful, out June 9–travels in slow motion, but the guitars are more impressionistic than all-encompassing. It feels more like an electronic track made with rock instruments, slowly building to a Smashing Pumpkins-like ecstasy. Take a listen and download below.
