Palm Daze: “Controls”

Veterans of the local music scene may have wondered during the past couple years, “what ever happened to Isaiah The Mosaic?” Well, with the exception of a single personnel change, they’re still alive and well, but performing as Palm DazeThe Austin-based psychedelic dream-pop four-piece had three releases under their previous moniker, with the last Isaiah The Mosaic single, “Heroin Island,” being released as recently as 2015. Featuring Eric McClung (lead vocals, synth, guitar), Ryan Heath (drums, samples), Tyler Delaune (bass guitar), and Gabriel Phoenix (replacing Phillip McClung on synth and vocals), the group reformed in early 2016, bearing the new name Palm Daze.

Incorporating sounds they describe as “oceanic”, “spiritual” and “strobing”, Palm Daze’s debut EP, Controls was released April 21st – and it really is like listening to Isaiah The Mosaic but with a fresh perspective. Just check out of the album’s title track- a spacey synth-soaked arrangement that demands listen after listen and highlights how much Palm Daze has come in the short time since they rose from the ashes of Isaiah.
