Montreal’s She-Devils, though they don’t say it outright, are out to create music that induces synesthesia. Colors, shapes, patterns, and textures are all fair game when describing their music. Born from the collective mind of first-time musician Audrey Ann Boucher and Kyle Jukka and armed with an arsenal of primitive electronic gear, She-Devils pit their similar visions of the dreamy, smokey, and beautiful against their creative oppositions. The result is something light, lovely, and cohesive.
“The World Laughs” is fueled by copious amounts of cool and charm and a toy box’s worth of fun sounds held together by bright, optimistic guitar chords. A dampening effect washed across the song carries the bubbly aesthetic beyond the song’s charisma, placing it somewhere between the terrestrial and the aquatic. In short, a fresh tune to kick off your sunny summer vibes.
“The World Laughs” appears on the group’s eponymous debut album, out now via Secretly Canadian.
