Halloween is 9 days away (but who’s counting?) and today’s Song of the Day, “Marionette,” will certainly put you in the mood. Sophie Seng, Austin-based singer and saxophonist, tells the story of the struggle for freedom and its subsequent constraints through the perspective of a marionette puppet. The vivid imagery of a marionette finding its footing, paired with Seng’s rich contralto over mysterious piano that gives way to a live band and string trio, makes this track a perfect fit for your spooky season playlist.
This song officially releases on October 23, ahead of her 2027 EP, and Sophie Seng will play a release show at Hole in the Wall on Sunday, October 25.
