Sour Bridges: “Donny’s Back In Town”

Sour Bridges’ self-described “browngrass” (that is, dirtied-up bluegrass) is probably best experienced live, where the Austin band’s close harmonies can ricochet off the breakneck rhythms. It’s a recipe that makes the group’s traditional roots more exciting, akin to what bands like Uncle Tupelo or fellow Austinites the Weary Boys sold for years.

Live At Stubb’s is Sour Bridges first live offering, recorded last year in the close, sweaty confines of the inside stage. “Donny’s Back In Town” kicks the set off in a celebratory mood, a preamble for the rest of the boozy document. Sour Bridges hits the throttle and doesn’t let up.

“Donny’s Back In Town” appears on Live At Stubb’s, out May 28. Sour Bridges plays May 28 at Oskar Blues Brewery.
