Every month we turn the spotlight on our artist of the month with a series of weekly features that give you a sneak peek at the new music and some insight into the artist behind it.
Since 2007, Tim Crane has been spreading the gospel of “chunk.” That’s funk, soul, hip-hop, and rock all brewed together, a 21st century mashup that only an avowed music fan could concoct. Crane is such a music fan. Growing up in Massachusetts, he achieved a Southern education from his father, who would put him to bed by singing Howlin’ Wolf and Mississippi John Hurt songs. Crane landed in Austin and transformed into T Bird, the can’t-take-your-eyes-off-him showman that leads the chunk revolution with his band the Breaks.
Harmonizm, the band’s third, is bigger and brighter, rounding out some of the rough edges from their early days. But live in our Studio 1A, T Bird & the Breaks accentuate those edges. “Will To Live” is a celebration, anchored by T Bird, the king of the party.
