Tele Novella is determined to toss some drama into your day, or at least a few minutes of it. Born from the ashes of former Austin groups Agent Ribbons and Voxtrot, this local quartet revisits retro-sounds of the 1960s to create their brand of psych-macabre-indie pop. Fronted by a modern day Nancy Sinatra (Natalie Ribbons) Tele Novella is a powerhouse of vintage-sounding pop. Their latest album, House of Souls, offers a clean studio sound that contrasts that of their live performances, but still carries the comparable energy, with “Even Steven” serving as the group’s tribute to macabre lyrics in the classic surf rock genre.
“Even Steven,” recorded live in Studio 1A, also appears on House of Souls, out September 23rd on Yellow Year. Tele Novella plays an album release show on October 31st at Barracuda. Listen to the band’s guest DJ set here.
