After four long years, the two-time Polaris-Music-Prize nominated Canadian indie band The Besnard Lakes are back with their seventh album The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation. The psyhedelic-as-all-hell output encompasses modern desert psych rock tracks and songs drenched in that beautiful nostalgic sound that dances between shoegaze, jangle pop, and goth, all magnified and transcended to another world with Olga Goreas’s signature haunting vocals.
On “In Hollywood,” we’re taken straight to the Mojave Desert somewhere between Las Vegas and Tinseltown sometime between dusk and dawn. The highway hypnosis is setting in and you begin to question if everything you’re seeing in the headlights is real. Jace Lasek takes the lead vocals on this desert psych track that harkens back to early Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, balancing Goreas’s ethereal yin with a slightly more menacing yang.
The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation is out October 10th on Full Time Hobby.
