Last year, Nathan Dixey introduced himself to the Austin scene with a shaggy, psych-folk record put out by his band, the Dan Ryan. The Ryan’s second offering, Guidance, builds on that looseness by treading further into a zoned-out zone, featuring a lot of the same folks behind RF Shannon’s similarly-minded cosmic music. “Guidance” is all sprawl, matching a stuttering beat to a doo-wop mantra that sounds almost Gregorian in its immensity. It’s folk music played on a psych-rock scale.
“Guidance” appears on the album of the same name, out July 14 on Cosmic Dreamer. The Dan Ryan celebrates with a record release show Saturday, July 1 at Cheer Up Charlie’s.
