Twin Peaks: “Walk To The One You Love”

This week, the Song of the Day features SXSW 2016 artists. Catch up on last week’s picks here.

With a name like Twin Peaks, there’s probably a certain Lynchian expectation to create moody, atmospheric music. The Chicago band has had its share of ghostly songs–namely “Irene”–but Twin Peaks pulled a fast one on us all. The group instead crafts bright garage pop that’s rough around the edges.

The first time “Walk To The One You Love” blared around the office, I declared it “Twee Rex,” but I meant it as an absolute compliment. Twin Peaks nails the sweet/tough thing on the song, throwing in some sunny countrified riffs for maximum effect. The track comes from the band’s third album, Down In Heaven, out May 13, and you can see them preview the record live at the Four Seasons on Thursday. Listen to the song below.
