Weaves: “Tick”

Toronto’s Weaves can make something really catchy out of ostensibly ugly sounds. The four members all come from different musical backgrounds, and it sounds like they’re just jamming their individual ideas together with a hammer and some rusty nails. But this junkyard method works because Weaves’ songs are so much fun. The buzzing slide guitar on “Tick” feels unhinged at first, but it quickly coheres into a hell of a hook. “This is just the beginning of what I wanna say,” Jasmyn Burke sings, and I think she’s right. Weaves don’t just say it, though–they grab you and don’t let up.

“Tick” appears on Weaves, out June 17 via Kanine/Buzz/Memphis Industries.
