Whiskey Shivers: “Like A Stone”

Austin’s Whiskey Shivers play fast and loose with bluegrass and country, injecting a fervent punk spirit that puts the band closer to a DIY party than a honky-tonk. The wider world has taken note too: the past few years have seen features on The Daily Show and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, and in December, the group will make an acting and musical appearance in Pitch Perfect 3.

Later this month comes Some Part Of Something, Whiskey Shivers’ fifth album, and it’s accompanied by some truly one-of-a-kind pre-order opportunities: banjo lessons, whiskey dates with the band, a taco tour of Austin, even “mullet jewelry” inspired by fiddler/singer Bobby Fitzgerald’s spectacular hairdo. If those don’t convince you, there’s always the music, and “Like A Stone” is a perfect introduction. It’s a breakneck, rough-around-the-edges song that wears a Shivers-esque grin around every hairpin turn.

“Like A Stone” appears on Some Part Of Something, out July 21. Whiskey Shivers play live in our Studio 1A on Tuesday, July 18 at 7 p.m. before an album release show at the Mohawk on Saturday, July 22.
