After a move from North Carolina to Austin and six years of local shows, the Baker Family returned this summer under a new guise. Young Tongue keeps all the same band members–including husband-and-wife duo Stu and Liz Baker at the core–but gone are the folk touches. Distorted bass, complex melodies, a driving rhythm section–this is an altogether different beast, even with similar personnel. Young Tongue’s debut Death Rattle is bigger and more expansive than the Baker Family’s past work, but it retains that familial warmth. “Heavy Metal Thunder,” captured live in our Studio 1A, shows off this new direction. Download it below, and catch Young Tongue at Stubb’s Jr. on Wednesday, December 3.
