How Neil Young Spent his Birthday
Neil Young has been one of the most vocal celebrities when it comes to protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, so it makes sense that he would spend his 71st birthday performing for the protestors. Young performed his recent pipeline-inspired tune “Indian Givers” and others while walking among the camps at Standing Rock Reservation with his guitar and harmonica. In a social media post, Neil Young said he got his birthday wish; his girlfriend took him to Standing Rock.
Peter Tosh Museum Opens in New Kingston
Reggae fans planning pilgrimages to Kingston will soon have another place to pay their respects: the new Peter Tosh museum. The project was spearheaded by entrepreneur man behind the Jamaican Music Awards Kingsley Cooper, who met and bonded with Tosh on what turned out to be the musician’s final tour in 1987. With the help and full involvement of Peter Tosh’s estate, after 15 years, the museum finally came into fruition and had its official launch on October 19th (what would have Tosh’s 72nd birthday) in the business district of New Kingston. The museum is relatively small despite how much is inside and the level to which his full life is covered. Despite the irony of having politicans from both sides attend the opening and the Prime Minister of Jamaica open the space considering Peter Tosh’s personal castigation of professional politicians, Kingsley Cooper says he sees it as a positive sign that the Jamaican government is taking Peter Tosh’s legacy seriously.
