SnapClot on 4/20
If you’re a Snapchat user, you probably noticed a new filter marking Wednesday’s holiday: a Bob Marley filter. You know, the one with the cartoon dreadlocks, Rastafarian hat, and…blackface. The filter gained a LOT of attention when celebrity Kylie Jenner posted a selfie sporting the filter that most people found both racially insensitive and a gross appropriation of Marley himself and the black, rasta, and ganja cultures all rolled into one. When asked whether they considered the public response of such a filter, Snapchat responded by saying the filter “gives people a new way to share their appreciation for Bob Marley and his music. Millions of Snapchatters have enjoyed Bob Marley’s music, and we respect his life and achievements.”
Kosher-Chella Passover Weekend
This weekend is Passover. It’s also the 2nd weekend of Coachella. And for Jewish people who are stuck between feeling family-driven guilt and Fear Of Missing Out while your friends are drowning in LCD Soundsystem and Sufjan Stevens out in the desert, rapper Kosha Dillz and Rabbi Yonah Bookstein have you covered. Presenting Matzachella, a ten-minute Seder being held roughly once an hour on Friday and Saturday nights where the youngest participant will ask the ceremonial four questions and all will partake in the Seder plate.
On Earth Everyone Can Hear You Scream (…for Vinyl)
April 26th has been named the world’s first Alien Day. And what better way to celebrate than with a limited “xenomorph blood” edition vinyl pressing of James Horner’s score to the 1986 film Aliens. The vinyl literally contains a green-colored liquid and follows last year’s more traditional vinyl pressing of the film’s soundtrack. Limited to just 75 copies, some will be sold on the Mondo online store at 11AM on the 26th, while the others will be sold the same day starting at 5 PM at a pop-up at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. They’ll mostly be sold then…mostly.
