Shakespeare’s classic As You Like At is getting a Texan makeover. Beginning November 22, Austin Shakespeare is transforming the production to feature the music of Austin singer-songwriters like Nagavalli, Susan Gibson, Trish Hinojosa, Walt Wilkins and Guy Forsythe. “We invite the audience on a journey to discover how Shakespeare’s enduring story-telling can be reflected by today’s Austin musical styles,” says Austin Shakespeare Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella. The Austin influence doesn’t end there; costume designer Aaron Kubacak used Austin’s fashion as the inspiration for stylings that blend Renaissance and western visuals. The production’s scenic design, crafted by Tara Houston, is inspired by Austin’s street art movement.
The cast of Austin Shakespeare’s As You Like It stopped by Studio 1A ahead of their opening show at The Long Center’s Rollins Theatre on November 22. You can catch the show Wednesday-Sunday through Dec. 8.
