Balmorhea 9.19.17

Balmorhea, after more than a decade on the road and in the business, have taken stock, stripped back and created some of their most beautiful music to date. Formed in Austin in 2006 by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller the minimalist instrumental group has seen a rotating cast of members and six studio releases. Last year the founding duo thought about what they’d achieved and what, if anything, they had left to say. The result of this reflection is the simple and restrained Clear Language. It is the first album since their self-titled debut to be recorded solely by Lowe and Muller. The tracks are rich and layered, concise yet complex. The release is coupled with a three-part film series curated by Paris-based artist Claire Cottrell. Using sing simple images filmed on a cellphone Cottrell explores the unspoken themes of the album. Balmorhea brought their ethereal, textured sounds to Studio 1A ahead of their release shows at Paramount Theater, check out the full session below!
