Eastside Kings Festival

Eastside Kings Festival September 8th – September 9th, E 12th St & Chicon St, Austin, TX

For more info on the Festival, visit their event page here

The Eastside Kings came into Studio 1A recently to play a few songs getting ready for their upcoming festival in East Austin this weekend. Featuring the rich musical talents of singers/harmonica players Orange Jefferson and Birdlegg, drummer Russell Lee, guitarist Stevie Fulton, bassist Eddie Stout and Pee Wee Calvin on Organ, The Eastside Kings are veterans of the Austin Blues scene. And the experience shows in their performance starting with the smooth sultry sounds of “Hey Warden” by Orange Jefferson. The band quickly changes pace with the lively “Draw in Lip” by Gene Pittman (a.k.a. Birdlegg) finishing off the set once again with the soulful voice of Orange Jefferson on his song “Born in Louisiana”.

About the Festival

Spearheaded by bassist Eddie Stout, The Eastside Kings Festival is entering its sixth year providing a unique experience of authentic Blues talents. The festival opens Friday September 7th at C-Boys Heart & Soul Night Club with The Austin Blues Society’s Blues Awards featuring the Eastside Kings playing alongside musicians from Austin’s blues scene.

The festival then shifts to E 12th St & Chicon St for Saturday and Sunday with performances across multiple iconic venues in Austin’s historic Eastside. Each year, there is an opportunity to discover new artists as club goers wander from venue to venue. The festival will also feature Liljay, Cookie McGee and Ernie Johnnson from Dallas and a triple threat of queens – Jewel Brown, Crystal Thomas and Barbara Lynn from Houston, Shreveport, and Beaumont respectively.

The festival gets back to the roots of Blues culture recreating the free and lively atmosphere of hanging out between bars, exploring new musicians, and just having fun. They will also have Harmonica and Guitar workshops Saturday at Austin Vintage Guitars from 1:30-2:45 where you can come out and learn from authentic Blues legends.
